| January 17 2010 - Interview Sessions |

Once again our production team held an important interview session here at the lines of the 3rd Bn PPCLI, Garrison Edmonton. Our success would not have been possible without the excellent cooperation and support of LCol Peter Dawe, Commanding Officer 3PPCLI, authorizing our use of his lines; Capt Jon Hamilton, Ops O and QMSI Hessell who assisted in coordinating personnel for the interviews and organized the setup and construction of the back drop for the interview session. Without this support, the quality and perception of our end product would not be the same. We could not ask for better cooperation...We also received outstanding collaboration and support from the LFWA Public Affairs Officer, Lt Wright Eruebi, who pushed the word out through the Public Affairs and local media/press world for our event. A total of 10 different media and TV outlets descended on our session which gave us incredible prime time and press coverage of the days event and the project overall, both later that night and throughout the following days.
Principle in the interview session this time was the attendance of selected veterans. Maurice White a retired member of the famed First Special Service Force (Devils Brigade) and Loyal Edmonton Regiment gave us his interesting incite to operations during WW II in Italy and France. Mr. JA “Jack” Cathie, a 93 year old retired veteran, who joined the PPCLI in 1936, links a critical historical note to the Patricia segment for the planned Bonus DVD. Retired, LCol Ian Nicol, a former member of the Canadian Airborne Regiment, was Ops B Officer during the invasion of Cyprus in 1974 and contributed valuable information on the Regiment and Canada’s role in the initial stages of the conflict. All of these veterans have added more credibility to our production with their personal stories as we continue to fill the gaps in the documentary segments.
In addition, attending this special session were serving members of the 3 Bn PPCLI. With these interviews we continue adding to the segment of speaking to members who have toured in Afghanistan. Again, we continued collating data on the “Wounded Warrior” segment with the interview of Sgt Lorne Ford, a survivor of the fateful bombing of the Canadians, by an American F-16 pilot, at Tarnac Farm in April 2002. His story will form the pivotal core for the Wounded Warrior segment in the movie and set the foundation for more interviews to be shared by our wounded soldiers.
We interviewed 20 year member WO John McNabb. A qualified jump master and parachute instructor from Para Coy, he has four tours overseas, his most recent in Afghanistan 2008. He has contributed in other areas of the movie with the 65th Anniversary Ceremony of D-Day and the FSSF visit to 3PPCLI segments last year. Next we interviewed 30 year veteran WO Eric Miles, Para Coy and Battalion jump master, he has six overseas tours to his credit and recently returned from Afghanistan. The experience and stories of these seasoned NCO’s cannot be discounted and will all contribute to modern aspects of the production and lend immense accuracy and credibility to the movie objectives.
All around, this interview session was extremely valuable and we certainly consider it successful. With the continued support from the 3rd Bn PPCLI and our Public Affairs personnel, we know it will not be our last session held with the Patricia’s. We look forward to completing more interviews as we strive to complete this movie in the manner set out – with accuracy, integrity and respect.
