Canada is a nation rich in military history and tradition, and the airborne regiments and paratroopers are an important and integral part of that tapestry. It is important that we keep stories about our country’s military history alive so that we are able to understand the important role that the armed forces have played in helping to make our country what it is today.

The eight part series, with particular focus on the airborne regiment, will provide essential insight into some of our bravest warriors who represented our great nation with unparalleled heroism at Juno Beach, Korea, Cyprus and Afghanistan. I also know that this documentary will tell the whole story of Canada’s airborne regiments, ensuring important and difficult episodes such as Somalia will not be glossed over but rather incorporated into the broader narrative of the history and importance of these regiments to our nation.

I strongly encourage you, if you are able, to lend your support and voice to this project. It is a highly worthwhile effort and if we do not take action to preserve and commemorate important aspects of our military heritage for future generations, we run the risk of a generation of Canadians who are without an essential appreciation of the gravity and enormity of the sacrifice and dedication that those who wear and have worn our nation’s uniform have made. Re: "Vets get to tell their own story; Documentary tapping memories of Second World War paratroopers," The Journal, Jan. 18...

Thank you for this article. I have worked with senior veterans and now younger ones who are living with stories of war -- both good and bad -- in their minds. Providing veterans with the opportunity to tell those stories to others is therapeutic. I have seen this happen even in my own practice.

So little is written about late-life reminiscence or late onset of stress symptomatology. As a spouse of a deployed soldier and a health-care worker for veterans living in the community, I applaud filmmaker Dixon Christie for this tremendous effort. I hope that someday soon interviews will be conducted with the spouses of those war veterans.
